About
Michael René Kosorok grew up playing the French Horn, playing in youth and adult symphony orchestras, and listening to numerous and wide ranging LP recordings from the local public library. He set a goal as a teenager to someday become a full time composer.
He received a BM in music composition from Brigham Young University, where he studied with Murray Boren, David Sargent, and Merrill Bradshaw, was co-principal horn of the BYU philharmonic orchestra his freshman year, and was composer in residence for the BYU Percussion Ensemble. He received an MM in music composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he studied with Joel Naumann and Stephen Dembski. His chamber ensemble work “Elliptical Ascent” was premiered by the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble in Music Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also studied with Joseph Sowa in the Wizarding School for Composers.
Simultaneous with his musical endeavors, he worked as a mathematician and health scientist, receiving an MS in Statistics from Brigham University, and an MS and PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Washington.
